I thought I would visit a few liquor stores in the state to
find out which ones have something special to offer.
Who has a great selection of beers to choose from?
Who has the biggest selection to choose from?
Who has the freshest beer? Best price? Most kegs? Great questions, right?

My first stop was to visit Pat Dilorenzo at Spirits of The Valley in Martinsville. Spitits is a
great little store with some really interesting beer. There are over 200 varieties to
choose from. It is not a mega super sized store, so the beer tends to be fresher as the
stock moves faster.

According to Pat, “beer is unique in that it is really the only beverage that is seasonal,
changing as the seasons do.There are so many different breweries making beer that
the consumer will only buy during a six to twelve week window. For instance summer
beer is not going to sell well in December. Likewise Octoberfest and harvest style beer
will only sell well from September to December when the holiday and Christmas/Winter
brews come around. Followed by Barleywines and then Maibocks and back to Summer
brew again. Not to mention the one off Brewmaster oddities; beer is an amazing
beverage.”

Ok so hot chocolate is a seasonal brew but it is only popular in winter. And a Pinot
Grigio is the same in January as it is in August. I see his point.

Having a great but not too big lare in numbers selection allows Pat to concentrate on
providing
customer favorite breweries special seasonals and rotate them out quick to
the next season and keep everything fresh.

While visiting I noticed some bottles of Sam Adams special series. There was an Oak
aged brew called New World and another called Thirteenth Hour. I can’t wait to get
home and try these. Also just in was one case of Sam Adams Infinium that Pat said was
mostly reserved for his regular customers.  With a little begging I was able to get one of
the few left for sale.

There are many distributors in the area to choose stock from. Allied, Warren, Shore
Point, Regal, High Grade and Hunterdon are just a few. With all those providers Spirits
of the Valley carries Epic, Stone, Brooklyn, Duvel, Chimay, Lindemans, Ommegang,
Allagash, Delirium, Malheur, Troegs, River Horse, Cricket Hill (bourbon cask porter),
Flying Dog, Founders, Horny Goat, Anchor, Sierra Nevada, Great Divide, Terrapin,
Summit, Smuttynose, Dogfih Head, Lagunitas, Sam Smith, Innis and Gunn,
Weltenbergur, Samiclaus and many more. Whew.  I told you it was a great selection.

Pat and his staff are very helpful, friendly and knowledgable about there craft beer
selections. Not far from the Tap Room at Somerset Hills if you are in the area stop by
and say Hello to Pat and crew. Tell them you read about them on
