| Jeremy Cowan, the mastermind behind the Shmaltz Brewing Co., is touring the country to stir up interest among knowledgable beer drinkers with his two varieties of He'Brew, or what he calls "The Chosen Beer." His next stop is the Draught Board 15's upcoming March 14th meeting at the Gaslight. When the San Francisco resident first started the business in 1996, he produced 100 cases of hand-bottled, hand-labeled beer. "Now we're making 1,500 cases of each style at a time," he says. He'Brew now has 25 wholesalers in 20 states selling Genesis Ale, an amber-colored, West Coast-style pale ale with a big hop bite that finishes in a soft, malty sweetness, and Messiah Bold, a deep, bold nut brown ale nicely balanced with rich dark malts and a complex hop character. Cowan has received impressive press coverage over the years, including articles in Playboy, Newsweek and the L.A. Times, a result of his unique and spirited marketing approach.
