Meet the person behind American's first all wheat brewery -Greg Zaccardi
|
Coming in February...
The Draught Board 15 is honored to announce that
our special guest speaker on Feb. 8 th will be Greg
Zaccardi, the founder of the High Point Wheat Beer
Company , the first exclusive wheat beer brewery in
America.
Mr. Zaccardi, an award-winning homebrewer in
America, received his professional training in southern
Germany, home of some of the world's finest brewers.
He returned to the US to open his brewery in 1994 in
High Point, NJ where he produces Ramstein beers.
Ramstein beers are all made with the care and
precision Greg learned in Germany. In fact, the wheat,
barley, hops and yeast used in Ramstein are all
imported directly from Bavaria.
It was Bavaria, in a small brewery, that Greg found a
special brewer’s yeast never used outside the area. He
was able convince the brewery to let him use this
special yeast exclusively at High Point. The unique
complex character of Ramstein is a result of this
private yeast and High Point’s careful and proper
brewing methods.
The name Ramstein was adopted from a town in
Germany with a large American population. The town
surrounds the U.S. Ramstein Air Force Base. High
Point wanted the name of its beers to reflect a
marriage of German tradition and American innovation.
