Beer accounts for three-quarters of the
alcoholic drinks consumed by people who
have more than 100 drinks per month in
Australia. The Australian Federal Gov.
recently increased taxes on all alcoholic
beverages in an attempt to reduce binge
drinking, especially amongst
teenage girls.

An Anderson (SC) city court judge did not buy
a man's argument that he was storing bags
full of empty beer cans that he collected on
city streets. Judge Hugh Welborn found
Norman Williford guilty of operating a business
without a license. Williford was ordered to pay
a fine of $465 or spend 30 days in jail.
Anderson police officers testified that
undercover officers bought alcohol from
Williford, and found stashes of beer, wine and
liquor. Williford, who argued that the huge
supply was for “guests who want some.“My
friends help me buy some more. I ain't gonna
let them drink mine for nothing.”
Beer continues to be Canada's top
alcoholic drink, though a growing
number of consumers are favouring
wine, according to a Statistics Canada
report. Beer accounted for 47 per cent
of alcohol sales, down from 52 per cent
last year. Wine sales comprised 28 % of
the market, up from 21 %. A sharp 10
per cent rise in vodka sales helped drive
up spirits sales

Anheuser-Busch is launching Budweiser
in Vietnam in supermarkets in Ho Chi
Minh City and in select chain outlets
across the country. Vietnam
experienced double-digit beer volume
growth for the past three years. The
Budweiser sold in Vietnam will be
brewed at an A-B facility in California.
A-B will also double distribution in
China which is the world's
fastest-growing beer market.
Anheuser-Busch has a 27 per cent stake
in Tsingtao, China's best-selling
premium beer. They also has 50 per
cent ownership in Grupo Modelo,
Mexico's leading beer-maker.
