Goose Island Illinois This is an 8.4% American Double IPA that is definitely NOT a hop bomb. While balance is not always good in this case it makes for a very drinkable brew but keeps it from being anything special. Earthy floral hop aroma with light toasted bread. Taste brings some pineapple, mango, grapefruit backed by a malt sweetness. Finish brings some grainy malt and light resins. Overall rating:- Above Average
Sam Adams Rebel IPA Get ready for a surprise, Sam Adams has joined the bandwagon and made a West Coast Style American IPA (6.5% ABV) and being Sam Adams they do a very solid but not quite great job. It opens with aromas of sweet bread, light sugar, pine, and as expected, citrus. Grapefruit and pine with hints of mango dominate the flavor profile with light caramel and malt notes in the background. Never bitter. Hops fade at the finish which keeps this from a higher rating. Overall Rating - good
Flying Dog Kujo This beer is an American Imperial Coffee Stout with an appropriate 8.9% ABV. The nose brings milk chocolate plus some vanilla, caramel and much coffee. First sip is dominated by roasted malt, with a light hop bite coming in at mid taste, followed by strong coffee notes. The finish is fairly dry with some nutty and more dark coffee flavors. Typical of the style and well made however nothing here that distinguishes itself from the pack. Overall Rating: Average+
